HIMIG | Melody

As its founding group, the choral division of HKCS shines as the heart of the collective. Composed of members ages 15-24 with varying musical backgrounds, HIMIG rehearses and performs choral compositions written or arranged by Filipino artists–from folk songs and kundiman to Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and contemporary pieces by Filipino musicians all over the world. HIMIG has had the privilege to perform at cultural events all over the BC Lower Mainland, including singing the Canadian national anthem at sporting events, namely for the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Vancouver Bandits. Additionally, HIMIG shared their talents beyond provincial borders at the Edmonton Heritage Festival in 2024, and is thrilled to announce that their international debut is set for July 2026, as they represent Canada and the Philippines at the 2026 World Peace Choral Festival in Vienna, Austria.

In 2025, HKCS launched its Understudy Program, a no-audition experience designed to gradually incorporate new singers into HIMIG, while seeing if they’re the right match for the group. HIMIG and its Understudy Program warmly welcomes aspiring singers who wish to learn more about Filipino culture through the beauty of music and language, and aims to be an enriching experience to inspire long-term participation within the HKCS community.
